Champion of Change: Desiree Watson

Desiree Watson is an activist, mother, philanthropist and social justice leader. Ever since her first job as a community events organizer, where she worked under her mother, Desiree knew that she wanted to be involved in organizations that supported other women.

Born and raised in Upstate New York, she later attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Following college, she found her passion working as a mentor to businesswomen and became the charter member of ‘Leading Women Entrepreneurs,’ an organization for supporting women in business. There, Desiree taught women important marketing and communications skills free of charge – as long as they provided a wellness and sustainability model. Perhaps most significantly, she also stressed how important it is for empowered women to empower other women in order to work towards gender equality.

In addition to her consulting work, Watson is an advisory board member of the UN Association and was the chair of the Metro NY Chapter’s 30th anniversary committee. She is also the president of Wellness Interactive Branding an organization dedicated to spreading health and wellness to individuals, companies and communities through education and training programs.

A mother of two, Desiree instilled in her own children the importance of supporting women and contributing to making the world a better place. "Look within organizations for diversity and distribution and identify the areas of need," she says. "Once the problem is targeted, find a strategy that enables you to reach out to women everywhere."

Desiree is one of the many inspiring people selected as part of our Champions of Change campaign, which honors individuals who have made a difference in the lives of women and girls in the Metro New York area or globally.
