Nominating Committee Seeks New Board Members for NY Metro Chapter

The Nominating Committee for the Metro New York Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women is seeking nominees for election to the 2018–2020 Board of Directors. The committee is looking for individuals with experience and resources that will actively contribute to the mission of women’s empowerment and gender equality. We welcome all qualified candidates and seek nominees who have the following specific skills and experience:


Volunteers with experience in working with corporate sponsors, individual giving and fundraising events.

Accounting and Financial Expertise

We seek a new Treasurer and members of the finance team to contribute to financial management.

Marketing Expertise

Volunteers with expertise in marketing, writing, graphic design, public relations and social media.

Requirements of Board Members

Each board member must be willing to serve actively on at least one board committee and attend four board meetings each year. Board members are also expected to attend chapter events, make a financial contribution, and contribute in some capacity to fundraising for the chapter (selling tickets, etc). We encourage board members to employ their personal connections to help the chapter achieve its programmatic and financial goals.

The Board of Directors is an all-volunteer, working group requiring active participation by all members. Only USNC members who have paid membership dues are eligible to serve on the board.

Nomination procedure and timeline is the following:

  • February 22 Email announcements sent

  • March 9 Nomination forms due

  • March 28 Nominees submit a board application form, a resume and letter of recommendation to

  • Mid-April Applicants screened and interviewed either in person or by telephone

  • April 20 Official slate sent to members

  • May 18 Annual Meeting – new members introduced
